AGE GRADES

All players are to compete within their own age grade, which for the 2026 season, will be:

FIRST KICKS - kids born in 2019 or after

U8th GRADE - kids born in 2018

U9th GRADE - kids born in 2017

U10th GRADE - kids born in 2016

U11th GRADE - kids born in 2015

U12th GRADE - kids born in 2014

U13th GRADE - kids born in 2013

U14th GRADE - kids born in 2012

U15th/U16th GRADE - kids born in 2011 and 2010

CANCELLATIONS

Go to Capital Football for information about cancellations. When possible, with sufficient notice, cancellation information will be posted on the MIRAMAR RANGERS A.F.C. Facebook page. In most cases your team's coach and manager will know what's going on.

WELLINGTON AGE GRADE COMPETITION

All teams play in Capital Football's Wellington Combined competition. These teams play against other Wellington-based clubs (such as Brooklyn, Island Bay and Seatoun) and are usually configured so that players can be teamed with their friends and school mates. There is an emphasis on participation, teamwork and fun.

Age grade games take place at different locations around Wellington on Saturdays, with the most junior teams usually scheduled early in the day. To see current fixtures, just click here. 

U8 + U9 GRADE

ELIGIBLE: Kids turning 8(for 8th Grade) or 9 (for 9th Grade) during the 2026 calendar year

TEAM SIZE: 5 a-side

PITCH SIZE: 20x30m approx

SATURDAY GAMES: 4 x 10 min

TRAINING:Teams train outdoors at Miramar Park. From Queens Birthday indoors at the ASB. Details to be confirmed during the season.

U8s Mondays 4.45-5.30pm

U9s Tuesdays 4.45-5.30pm

CLUB-FUNDED TOURNAMENTS:Yes - Wynton Rufer at Stop Out in May (2 x teams per grade) Western Suburbs and Wellington United in September 2 x teams per grade)

U10 + U11 GRADE

ELIGIBLE: Kids turning 10 (for 10th Grade) or 11 (for 11th Grade) during the 2026 calendar year

TEAM SIZE: 7 a-side

PITCH SIZE: 50x30m approx

SATURDAY GAMES: 2 x 25 min

TEAM ALLOCATION SESSIONS: Yes

TRAINING:Teams train outdoors at Miramar Park. From Queens Birthday some indoor training available.

CLUB-FUNDED TOURNAMENTS:Yes - Wynton Rufer at Stop Out in May (2 x teams per grade) and the Douglas Villa in Masterton, Western Suburbs and Wellington United in September (2 x teams per grade)


U12 + U13 GRADE

ELIGIBLE: Kids turning 12 (for 12th Grade) or 13 (for 13th Grade) during the 2026 calendar year

TEAM SIZE: 9 a-side

PITCH SIZE: 60x45m approx

SATURDAY GAME: 50 min

TEAM SELECTION SESSIONS: Yes

TRAINING:Teams train outdoors at Miramar Park.

CLUB-FUNDED TOURNAMENTS:Yes - Wyton Rufer at Stop Out in May (12th Grade only) and the Douglas Villa in Masterton, Western Suburbs and Wellington United in September (2 x teams per grade - usually As + one other)

U14 - U15 GRADE

ELIGIBLE: Kids turning 14 (for 14th Grade) or 15/16 (for 15th/16th Grade) during the 2026 calendar year

TEAM SIZE: 11 a-side

PITCH SIZE: full pitch

SATURDAY GAME: 60/70 min

TDP TRIALS: Yes

TRAINING:Teams train outdoors at Miramar Park.

CLUB-FUNDED TOURNAMENTS:Yes - Douglas Villa in Masterton, Western Suburbs and Wellington United in September (2 x teams per grade - usually As + one other)

AGE GRADE DISPENSATIONS

Any player who wishes to play outside their age grade (either up or down a grade), must apply to Capital Football for a dispensation. This is done through the club, so please contact secretary@miramarrangers.co.nz as an initial step. This is a reasonably involved process and together, the player, caregivers and Club should feel confident that there is good reason for applying.
